Where can I use Beam?
Place your cursor in the text field where you want to write, then hold your dictation shortcut. Beam inserts your words into the app you’re using. Notes and Meetings live inside Beam.
Does my speech leave my Mac?
Speech recognition, cleanup, and note and meeting summaries run locally. Models need an initial download; updates, purchases, and license activation or renewal use an internet connection. Text sent to another app follows that app’s privacy settings. Read the details.
Can I teach Beam the names I use?
Add names, specialist terms, and preferred spellings to your personal dictionary. Review and edit them in Beam. Your dictionary stays on your Mac.
Which Mac do I need?
Beam runs on Apple silicon with macOS 14 or later. Capturing Mac audio for Meetings requires macOS 14.4 or later. Notes and meeting summaries use a downloaded local writing model.
