Who we are

Beam is made by SparQan LLC, a Texas limited liability company. This policy covers Beam, justbeaming.com, purchases, and support. SparQan LLC is responsible for this service information. Questions and privacy requests: [email protected].

What stays on your Mac

Speech recognition and AI text cleanup run locally. Beam does not upload dictation audio, transcripts, meeting content, or notes for AI processing, and does not use them to train model weights.

Dictation audio is processed in memory and discarded. Meeting and recording capture uses temporary local audio files, deleted after successful transcription. Failed captures may remain locally for recovery.

Saved history, transcripts, notes, dictionary entries, settings, and personalization data live on your Mac. Personalization can use retained history and local activity statistics to suggest vocabulary and describe your usage. It does not send a voice profile to us. You can disable dictation history and delete saved items; deleting history does not necessarily remove separate dictionary entries, preferences, or aggregate statistics.

Beam places text into the app you choose. That app, your exports, and device backup or sync services have their own data handling. When recording others, obtain the permissions and consent your circumstances require.

Information that supports the service

• Purchases and licenses. We receive contact and purchase information from checkout, including name, email, plan, transaction references, and payment status. Licensing records include license identifiers, activation and validation timestamps, expiry where applicable, and identifiers for activated Macs. Checkout pairing and delivery records help get your license to you. Stripe processes card details; we do not store your card number.
• Email requests. If you request a download link or sign up for news, we store your email, submission time, browser user-agent, and email delivery information. We use this to fulfill your request and send the communications you requested.
• Support. We receive the messages and attachments you choose to send. In-app diagnostic and crash reports are shown before you send them through your mail app. Review them for information you prefer not to share.
• Service requests. Downloads, updates, pricing, activation, and validation contact online services. Those services receive ordinary request metadata such as IP addresses. Some anti-abuse checks use temporary counters derived from hashed IP addresses.

No Beam account is needed for local transcription. Purchase and activation information is needed to provide and manage a paid license.

Website measurement and browser storage

Our website counts events such as downloads and checkout clicks, including broad campaign or referral categories. These counters store totals, rather than individual browsing histories. The site uses browser storage for a visit’s referral category and to remember whether a notice has been seen. Hosting infrastructure also processes request and security information.

The site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare adds its script to the site’s pages as they pass through Cloudflare’s network; your browser loads it from static.cloudflareinsights.com and sends a report back to this site. Web Analytics counts page views and measures how quickly pages load, broken down by page, referring site, country, browser, operating system, and device type. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and does not fingerprint visitors. Its reports show totals, not individual browsing histories. Cloudflare receives your IP address with each report and discards it at the nearest Cloudflare data center, without storing it in its core databases or logs. Cloudflare does not process Web Analytics data for visits that reach its data centers in the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. Blocking the script switches it off, and the site works the same either way.

We do not sell personal information, use advertising trackers, or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not let other companies use this site to collect information about your activity across other websites over time.

Providers we use

Cloudflare supports hosting, file delivery, website analytics, licensing storage, and email routing. Stripe handles payments and subscriptions. Resend delivers service emails. Google provides our support mailbox. Some model files download from Hugging Face; downloading a model does not send your recordings or transcripts to its host.

Each provider receives information relevant to its role, such as request metadata, billing information, an email recipient, or the contents of a support message. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to protect rights and prevent abuse. Service information may be processed in the United States and other countries where providers operate; we do not promise US-only storage. Cloudflare processes information for us under data processing terms that rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for transfers from Europe. Why we use information, and how long

Where EU or UK data protection law applies, we rely on performance of a contract for purchases and licensing; legitimate interests in providing requested support, maintaining reliable services, preventing abuse, and measuring how our website is used; legal obligations for required records; and consent for optional marketing where required. You may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Retention depends on purpose: licensing records support your entitlement; purchase records support accounting, refunds, and legal requirements; support correspondence supports issue resolution and necessary follow-up; signup records support requested communications. Temporary delivery and anti-abuse records expire separately. Cloudflare keeps website analytics in full detail for seven days and after that as a sample of about a tenth; we can view the previous six months. Information may need to be retained for unresolved disputes or legal obligations. Local content remains subject to your app settings, deletions, and device backups.

Your choices and rights

Email [email protected] to request access, correction, or deletion, or to stop marketing messages. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to object, restrict processing, receive portable data, withdraw consent, and complain to a data protection authority, including the UK ICO. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We cannot retrieve or delete files held only on your Mac. Website analytics hold no identifier, so we cannot find, export, or delete one visitor’s page views.

Children and policy updates

Beam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to us.

Changes to this policy will appear here with an updated effective date. Material changes to what Beam sends from your Mac will also be described in release notes.

This version took effect on September 25, 2026, and adds Cloudflare Web Analytics to the website.
